PushPress CEO Dan Uyemura has a background in startups, but it was his experience as a gym owner that revealed just how obsolete gym software had become. As a programmer, he saw firsthand that building a custom website wasn’t realistic for most gym owners: It was too time-consuming and expensive.

Gym owners needed a way to manage unique, branded websites without the headache of starting from scratch. PushPress was determined to fill that gap, seeking a platform that could balance website customization at scale with operational efficiency. “We firmly believe our success depends on our clients’ success,” says Co-Founder and Director of Product Chris McConachie. “Their website is often the first impression: It needs to reflect their brand and be fully optimized to drive leads, without adding complexity.”

Managing over 300 client sites on WordPress exposed major issues with speed, scalability, and maintenance for PushPress. One plugin update could break entire systems, and the platform demanded ongoing engineering support.

“WordPress slowed everything down and wasn’t easy for non-technical team members to manage, which added cost and complexity,” says Chris. “Editing was a pain, and maintaining 50+ plugins was a nightmare.” It also made SEO optimization difficult, impacting lead generation and client satisfaction. “Managing WordPress required a mid- to senior-level engineer, and even then, it negatively impacted us and our clients. Gym owners don’t have time or technical expertise for web edits,” says Dan. “We needed a solution that was scalable and easy to customize.”

WordPress couldn’t keep up. “We’re obsessed with helping our clients put their best foot forward,” says COO Brian Aung. “To showcase each gym’s brand in the most compelling way possible, we turned to Webflow.”

Webflow’s visual-first interface, enterprise-grade features, and robust APIs allowed PushPress to completely rethink their own website — and how they deliver client websites. “Webflow listens and understands uncommon use cases, and tailored their platform to fit our needs,” says Brian. “Their technical feedback and suggestions have been invaluable and our partnership has helped us eliminate infrastructure, SEO, and scalability challenges.”

Now, with their Grow product, PushPress delivers over 100 completely customized sites per month without bottlenecks. “The biggest difference between Webflow and WordPress is how easy it is to design templates exactly how we want, without so many restrictions,” says Chris. “That flexibility means the gyms look more professional, which is key for prospects looking online for a new fitness community.”

With Webflow, PushPress took a major step forward in turning their website service into a scalable, semi-automated product. The team used Webflow’s API to build a system that automates nearly 60% of the website-building process by dynamically populating gym-specific content into templates. Instead of manually coding or copying over content, they use structured intake forms to collect everything upfront, from program details to target audience insights and brand identity. This eliminates back-and-forth emails and discovery calls, giving the design team exactly what they need to start building as soon as the form is submitted. 

“Many clients need their sites ASAP, so we track build time closely,” says Chris. “Our current average build time is about 2 hours and 16 minutes. Our goal is to get that below one hour with more automation.” In the past five years with Webflow, they’ve scaled to managing over 1,200 live sites while maintaining a lean team, proving that operational efficiency doesn’t have to come at the expense of quality. In fact, clients report a 4.9 CSAT score after the initial build and feedback.

PushPress uses Webflow’s variables to store and manage frequently used fonts, colors, and layout elements. This means the team can quickly rebrand a site or expand into adjacent markets, like martial arts, without starting from scratch. Updates that used to take days can now happen in a matter of minutes.

Webflow’s CMS gives gyms even more real-time control. For teams producing regular content — whether it’s blog posts, events, or podcast episodes — it allows them to publish updates themselves without relying on the PushPress team for minor changes. “This freed us up to focus less on website maintenance and more on what truly matters to our clients — optimizing the entire lead funnel and creating a strong front door experience,” says Brian Our clients don’t need to worry about the technical details; they just want results.”

PushPress’ shift to Webflow has delivered measurable results: Clients using Webflow-built sites are seeing 50% more monthly leads and 57% higher conversion rates compared to those on other platforms. “There’s a major push around AI, and we’re staying ahead of it. Chris and the team actually ran a study comparing our website performance to others in the industry — and ours ranked higher in search results,” says Chris. “We’re committed to staying forward-thinking on the AI and SEO front, so our clients can benefit from emerging AI-driven search opportunities that are already reshaping the landscape.”

In analyzing more than 1,500 competitor sites, PushPress found their Webflow-built websites consistently outperformed industry averages in critical areas: page speed (69 vs. 53), accessibility (91 vs. 83), and SEO (98 vs. 91)

Recently, PushPress launched a new gym insurance product using Webflow, showing how the platform’s flexibility opens doors for new offerings while keeping everything under one roof. Looking ahead, they’re exploring ways to integrate AI to further streamline the onboarding and customization process. The team is prototyping a new intake experience that reduces the number of form questions from over 60 to just eight. “We’re focusing on deeply understanding each business and their ideal clients,” says Chris. This shift would allow PushPress to deliver even more personalized sites with less friction and fewer back-and-forths. The team is also looking forward to experimenting with Webflow’s AI Site Builder to introduce even more opportunities for customization and efficiency in future site builds.
