"When you're operating Europe's leading fast-charging network across twenty-four markets with highly dynamic growth, the question isn't which CMS to pick. It's whether your digital platform can evolve at the same pace without creating new dependencies every time you scale. That's the problem we solved. We have the steering wheel in our hands now, with Klarkode and Webflow keeping the speed up on feature development and seamless rollouts with close to zero downtime. That's where the real value sits."

A mission-critical digital asset for Europe’s EV infrastructure
IONITY operates the leading high-power charging (HPC) network for electric vehicles across Europe. It was founded as a joint venture of the car manufacturers BMW Group, Ford Motor Company, Hyundai Motor Group, Kia, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen Group with Audi and Porsche, along with Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), a part of BlackRock, as financial investor.
With over 850 charging locations with more than 6,000 ultra-fast charging points with up to 600 kW, and a presence across 24 EU markets, IONITY’ is your trusted partner on every journey, from holidays abroad to daily commutes, along highways and into the city, building products around the lifestyle of EV drivers: fast, reliable, and simple to use – giving drivers the freedom to move electric and shaping a cleaner future.
As EV adoption continues to accelerate, the platform also serves a large B2B audience, including automotive OEMs, mobility service providers, fleets as well as ride sharing and taxi companies.

As IONITY expanded its web presence from only three markets to twenty-four, its website needed to keep pace in scope, performance, and team velocity. The existing system could not support that growth.
When a Legacy Setup Can't Keep Up
Before moving to Webflow, IONITY’s web presence was managed by an external agency. Campaign launches, market page updates, and content changes often required coordination between IONITY and the agency, which slowed turnaround as the business expanded. The platform also needed to meet strict governance, compliance, and security standards, while giving marketing teams the speed to operate independently.
Localization added another layer of complexity. Translating and publishing content across more than two dozen markets, each with different languages and requirements, had become a major operational burden.
IONITY needed a centralized system that could handle multi-language content dynamically, without manual effort for every update. For that, it turned to Webflow and Klarkode, Germany's first Webflow Enterprise Partner headquartered in Hamburg. This combination brought deep technical expertise and experience with compliance, data privacy, and enterprise architecture across the DACH region and across Europe.
“The brief wasn't 'build us a new site.' It was 'help us build a digital platform that can scale as fast as our physical network.' That's a very different problem - and exactly the kind we exist to solve.” Philip Schenk, Co-Founder and Managing Director, Klarkode.
The engagement was supported by Webflow's European-based team. Together, the team scoped a plan that matched IONITY's actual requirements, not just for the launch, but as a foundation for the scale ahead.
A custom network map as a core part of the website experience
The centerpiece of the build is IONITY’s interactive network map: a custom integration built with the Google Maps and Google Places APIs that displays more than 6,000 charging sites, dynamically clustered by country.

The /network page drives high engagement, with four to five map interactions per visit. Klarkode built an architecture that syncs charging site data through Make and an FTP server, optimizing API usage while maintaining real-time accuracy across the full European network.
Drivers can locate charging sites, get directions, filter by country, switch to satellite view, and search by location. Webflow provided the frontend environment to integrate this custom code cleanly, handling localization, country-specific display logic, and continuous iteration without requiring a rebuild of the underlying architecture each time.
"Many people think of Webflow as a visual builder. We use it as a professional development platform - one that lets us ship complex, custom-integrated solutions at a pace that traditional stacks simply can’t match.” said Schenk.
Localization at 24-market scale: from bottleneck to workflow
Klarkode restructured IONITY’s CMS to separate global components from market-specific content, making it possible to update at the top level without cascading manual work across every locale.
The bigger win was automation. Klarkode implemented an AI-based translation process integrated directly into IONITY's publishing workflow. Regional managers for Germany, the UK, France, and Sweden review and publish changes to their markets directly. For the remaining twenty markets, AI handles translation. A process that once required manual duplication across every locale now runs with minimal friction.
This is the agentic model in practice: AI agents handling translation and workflow automation at scale, with human editorial control retained where brand and compliance stakes are highest, and Webflow’s governance layer ensuring auditability across every market and every team.
Governance was redesigned at the same time. Regional country managers, the legal team, and the support team each have dedicated roles with appropriate access levels in Webflow, meaning compliance updates, policy changes and support articles can be managed directly without routing through a central development queue.
For an organization operating across multiple regulatory environments, this is not just a workflow improvement, it is a risk management capability.
Marketing moves at the speed the strategy demands
The operational shift is the result that matters most for enterprise buyers considering a similar transition. Content teams now build pages using Webflow's component system and ship promotional content without engineering involvement. The legal team manages compliance and privacy updates through custom roles. The support team maintains its own project for urgent alerts and article updates.
Webflow Optimize and experimentation is next, alongside AEO investment as driver behaviour shifts toward AI-assisted search.
"The homepage needs to communicate who we are, what we do, and what value we deliver within three seconds. If you don't get it in three seconds, you're gone." Felix Sold.
The results so far are visible in the metrics. Active users grew 64% following the migration, driven by improved performance and the new interactivity of the network map. Organic search grew 49%, a direct result of Webflow's clean semantic code and the optimized multi-language CMS architecture. User engagement jumped 63%.
Klarkode continues as their ongoing technical partner, maintaining weekly syncs and supporting both feature iteration and strategic roadmap planning.
The lesson for enterprise buyers is clear. IONITY did not implement a new CMS. It replaced a fragmented system with a single platform uniting marketing, legal, support, and regional teams. For a company planning to double its network by 2030, this is the foundation for predictable digital growth.
