Introducing the next-gen Webflow CMS

Entering a new era of flexibility and scale, Webflow's next-gen CMS is a complete re-architecture on the backend designed to empower modern teams for an AI-first world.

Introducing the next-gen Webflow CMS

At Webflow, we’ve always believed that content is foundational to your website experiences —shaping how you build and design from the very beginning. That’s why our CMS has been natively integrated with our visual development tools since day one, empowering design and marketing teams to build with real content, right on the canvas.

And now, your content is more important than ever. It's the backbone of how AI models learn about your brand, and in many cases how they speak on your behalf to your customers. You need to produce more content than ever so AI can learn about you directly, and you need to be able to serve that content across multiple surfaces.

Your team needs a CMS that offers structured and flexible content models, allows you to produce more content than ever, structure and design with it however you need, and deploy it anywhere. That’s why, since last year’s Webflow Conf, we’ve been rebuilding our CMS from the ground up.

Today, we’re proud to introduce our next-gen Webflow CMS —completely rearchitected on the backend to give you the flexibility and scale you need to thrive in an AI-first world. Here are the powerful first capabilities that we’ll start rolling out later this year:

Custom CMS storage and data modeling

Our largest Enterprise sites will be able to scale to over one million CMS items, with double the fields per collection, double the reference fields per collection, and up to one million CMS items per individual collection.

Expanded design flexibility with CMS content

For all Webflow customers, we will be unlocking more flexibility to design even richer experiences with CMS content. This includes supporting up to 40 Collection lists (2X increase), 10 nested lists per page (5X increase), 100 items per nested item (10X increase) —and unlocking multi-level nesting that lets you design up to three layers deep with your CMS data.

Scalable multi-channel content delivery

We’re also making our Content Delivery APIs available to all Webflow customers, empowering you to deploy you content to digital channels beyond your Webflow site. These APIs provide read-only access to your published CMS content, served through our CDN, with caching built for both speed and scale.

High performance and reliability for the largest, most complex sites

Finally, our new architectural foundation brings significant improvements to critical downstream processes like publishing, restore, and backup at scale. This means our customers can be confident in highly performant and reliable publishing, ensuring your content goes live swiftly and consistently even for the largest and most complex sites.

This is just the beginning. All of this new infrastructure sets the stage for even more new capabilities and more robust APIs ahead. So whether it’s for your team or for an AI agent pulling from your site, your CMS content can be stored and designed flexibly, and served reliably at scale.

The next-gen Webflow CMS, including expanded Content Delivery APIs, will start rolling out later this year (2025).
