AI translation that handles formatted content naturally

AI translation works well for plain text. But formatted content — headings and paragraphs with bold words, links, or styled spans — has always been harder. Because inline elements were translated independently from the surrounding sentence, the results could feel off: awkward word choices, misplaced emphasis, phrasing that read like a word-by-word substitution rather than natural language.

Webflow now uses Gemini to generate translations, prompted to adapt idioms and express the source's tone and formality the way a native speaker of the target language would.

Formatted text translated as complete sentences

For headings, paragraphs, and rich text blocks, the entire element is now translated as a single unit rather than node by node. Inline formatting — bold text, links, styled spans — is temporarily set aside during translation and reattached to the semantically equivalent words in the translated output. When a clean remap isn't possible, the translation stays readable rather than breaking. Together, these changes mean less manual cleanup before publishing, and translated pages that feel closer to content originally written in the target language.

LLM-powered translation is available now for all Webflow Localization plans. Support for formatted text is rolling out and will be available to all customers by end of week.
