Flowstar SMI SSB

Linking a page to Instagram or LinkedIn in Webflow means placing an icon and styling it. Then you wire a link block by hand. Share buttons take more work because each platform needs its own share URL per page. Repeating that across every blog post and footer adds up fast.

Flowstar SMI SSB fills that gap with a Marketplace app. You add social profile icons and share buttons to your pages and adjust their layout and colors without writing code. Flowstar first sold it as a standalone app and now ships the same widget inside its Visual Widgets Toolkit app.

Web designers and freelancers can use it to ship header and footer icon sets on client sites. Marketers can use profile icons to turn readers into followers and share buttons to extend reach. Agencies that run several Webflow client sites can install the same app on each one.

How to integrate Flowstar SMI SSB with Webflow

What is Flowstar SMI SSB? Flowstar SMI SSB is a widget that adds social media icons and social share buttons to a Webflow site. Flowstar's product catalog abbreviates it as SMI + SSB, short for Social Media Icons and Social Share Buttons. Flowstar, the vendor, builds apps for Webflow sites. Its standalone listing for this widget is no longer in the Marketplace, and the widget now appears as Social Media Icons & Share Buttons inside Flowstar's Visual Widgets Toolkit.

For a blog launch or portfolio refresh, add follow links to the navigation and share buttons to content pages. A landing page campaign also calls for both.

The Visual Widgets Toolkit app is the way to add the widget today. Flowstar documents no Code Embed snippet or public API for it, so the Marketplace install is the entire integration.

Install the Flowstar SMI SSB widget

The toolkit bundles the social icons widget with galleries, sliders and other Flowstar widgets in one install. You need permission to authorize apps on the site. At install, the app asks to read and write custom code, site data and Ecommerce data. It also reads assets, pages and your authorized-user profile. That Ecommerce write access is broader than social icons need, because one permission set covers every widget in the bundle, so review the list before you authorize.

To set up the integration:

  1. Open the Visual Widgets Toolkit listing in the Webflow Marketplace and click Add to site.
  2. Choose the site to authorize.
  3. Review the permissions and click Authorize app.
  4. Click the Go to button on the pop-up banner. The toolkit runs in the background rather than in a Designer window, so you sign in and configure it on Flowstar's own site.
  5. Add the Social Media Icons & Share Buttons widget, then pick your platforms and set its layout and colors.
  6. Click Publish so the widget goes live.

The Webflow Apps overview explains why background apps open on the developer's site instead of the Designer. Once installed, the widget gives you:

  • Profile icons: Visitors can follow your accounts on platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.
  • Share buttons: Visitors can share your content to their own social accounts in one click.
  • Layout options: Flowstar offers several layouts for the icons and buttons.
  • Design controls: You can adjust colors, fonts and icons to match your brand.

Flowstar publishes no documentation for individual widget settings, so check the options in Flowstar's app before you plan a design around one. Flowstar also publishes no list of what the widget's script loads. Some share buttons pull scripts from the social platforms themselves, so check your published page's network requests before you count on a cookie banner to cover it.

Review or revoke the app's access

You can't change an app's permissions after install, but you choose which site it reaches when you authorize it. To see what's authorized, go to Site settings > Integrations > Authorized apps. To remove the app, go to Site settings > Apps & integrations and click Revoke.

After revocation, elements an app added remain, and the next publish removes custom code it added. The toolkit has no Designer window and no permission to edit pages, so it places widgets through custom code. Expect the icons to disappear at that next publish rather than at the moment you revoke.

What you can build with the Flowstar SMI SSB Webflow integration

Most builds pair follow icons in shared layout areas with share buttons on content pages.

  • Blog share bar: Add LinkedIn and Facebook share buttons below each article so readers can post it in one click.
  • Header and footer icon row: Build an icon row linking to each profile and place it in the header and footer.
  • Pre-launch follow page: Place follow icons on a coming-soon page you build so early visitors find your profiles.
  • Portfolio and case study sharing: Add share buttons to project pages so finished work travels beyond your site.

To show recent posts beside your follow icons, embed an Instagram feed on the same page. If you place share buttons on Webflow CMS Collection pages, test one template page first, because Flowstar doesn't document how the widget handles each item's URL.

Frequently asked questions

  • Flowstar doesn't document CMS support for the widget. The Visual Widgets Toolkit requests no CMS permissions, so it can't read or write your Collection items. Test share buttons on a Collection template page before you rely on them, since Flowstar hasn't said whether each item page shares its own URL.

  • No. Flowstar publishes no connector for this widget on any of those platforms, and neither Zapier nor n8n lists a Flowstar app. The widget is configured in Flowstar's own app, so the Marketplace install covers the whole setup. For automation elsewhere on your site, Zapier and Make both connect to Webflow directly.

  • You can build your own icons that way, but not Flowstar's. Flowstar documents no embed snippet or script tag for adding its widget yourself. The toolkit writes its own code through the custom code permission. Webflow's guide to head and body code covers code you add yourself, which stays separate from the app.

  • The Visual Widgets Toolkit listing sets no required Webflow plan. Flowstar hasn't stated whether the widget's custom code runs on the free Starter Site plan, so ask Flowstar support before you build on Starter.

  • There's no public setup guide for this widget. Flowstar hasn't published documentation for its settings. The Visual Widgets Toolkit listing gives hi@flowstar.co as the support contact. Authorize the app from that listing, configure the widget on Flowstar's site, and email support about anything the settings don't cover.
