Flowdrive
Connect Flowdrive, an external file and video hosting service, with Webflow to host videos and enable file uploads without Webflow's Business plan requirement.
How to integrate Flowdrive with Webflow
Webflow doesn't allow direct video file uploads to the Assets panel. Flowdrive addresses this through external hosting that integrates with Webflow's Designer and CMS.
Use the Flowdrive app
Install from the Webflow Apps Marketplace. The app provides an attribute-based widget that requires no coding.
Setup:
- Add
fd-uploadandfd-inputattributes to any Webflow div element - The div converts into a drag-and-drop upload zone
- Files upload to Flowdrive's cloud infrastructure
- URLs populate form fields automatically
Key capabilities:
- Works on any Webflow plan (no Business plan required for file uploads)
- Integrates with Webflow forms to capture uploaded file URLs
- Style through Webflow's Designer using standard controls
- Access file manager directly from Designer interface
Use custom code embeds
For placement outside standard form flows, use Webflow's Code Embed element with a div containing a unique ID. The Flowdrive script auto-initializes widgets based on HTML structure.
<div id="flowdrive-upload"></div>For form-based uploads, add data-flowdrive-upload="true" to your form element.
API integration
Store Flowdrive file URLs in Webflow CMS collections using the Webflow Collections API PATCH endpoint. This separates file hosting from content management.
Note: Flowdrive does not provide public API documentation. Contact Flowdrive support for API specifications and advanced programmatic workflows.
What you can build
Integrate Flowdrive with Webflow for file uploads and video hosting without platform limitations.
- Client file upload portals: Build project intake forms where clients submit files without requiring Webflow's Business plan. The attribute-based widget converts any div into a drop zone with automatic URL capture.
- Video course platforms: Host course videos on Flowdrive and integrate URLs into Webflow course pages or CMS collections, bypassing Webflow's video upload restrictions.
- Secure document delivery: Host client reports and proposals on custom domains (files.youragency.com) with password protection and time-limited access links.
Frequently asked questions
No. Webflow does not allow direct uploading of video files (.mp4, .mov, etc.) to the Assets panel. This is a platform limitation requiring external hosting services like Flowdrive, Vimeo, or YouTube for video content.
Not if you use Flowdrive. Webflow's native file upload field requires the Business plan. Flowdrive's upload widget works on any Webflow plan by adding
fd-uploadandfd-inputattributes to div elements.Flowdrive offers AES-256 encryption for data at rest, TLS for data in transit, password protection, and time-limited access links with expiration dates. Custom domain support is available for branded file delivery.
Important: Flowdrive does not hold formal security certifications (SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001). While marketing materials reference a "99.9% uptime SLA," the Terms of Service provide only a "best effort uptime" guarantee with no specific percentage commitment. Organizations requiring verified certifications or enforceable SLA guarantees should request documentation directly from Flowdrive before production deployment.
Contact Flowdrive support at manuel@tryflowdrive.com for migration guidance. For CMS-based assets, the Webflow Collections API enables programmatic updates to file URL fields for large-scale migrations.
Description
Flowdrive provides file and video hosting outside Webflow's native platform. It addresses Webflow's constraint that the Assets panel does not accept video files (.mp4, .mov) and that native form file uploads require the Business plan.
